Inspirational Reading University
Spotland Primary School belongs to a network of schools taking part in the ‘Inspirational Reading University.’ At Spotland Primary, we have selected a group of Year 4 children to form a Book Club (they are now in Year 5) and, over the next three years, they will be sharing a wide range of books and developing their love and enjoyment of reading. At the end of the project, the children involved will be awarded with a degree at a Graduation Ceremony to celebrate their fantastic achievement in reading.
On this page, the children will keep you up-to-date with the books they are reading and let you know what they think of them!
Year 6 have just started reading ‘Street Child’, written by Berlie Doherty. It tells the tale of a young boy, living in hardship in Victorian times. We are really excited to be starting a new text and have already decided to read the sequel!

Our Reading
The IRU groups in Years 5 and 6 have both chosen to read ‘Skellig’, written by David Almond. It is an intriguing tale of a mysterious creature discovered in a crumbling garage by Michael and Mina. Who is he and how did he get there?
The Year 4 IRU groups are currently enjoying ‘The Day I was erased’, written by Lisa Thompson. They are really enjoying this funny story about Maxwell, a total menace to his teachers and big sister. One day, he finds himself erased from his usual life…what is going to happen to him?
