What is SPECS?
Spotland Primary Engagement Curriculum Skills (SPECS), is Spotland School's bespoke assessment system for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
The staff use the documents to help them with the graduated approach and plan-do-review system, to ensure that the children are learning at their pace. We currently have SPECS for Reading, Writing and Maths. Your child may have needs in just one area, therefore they would just have SPECS in that area. There are six levels and work from Early Years to Year 2 basic skills. Working throughout the learning is the Engagement Model, which is a document that looks at developing children's:
Awareness, Curiosity, Investigation, Discovery, Anticipation, Persistence and Initiation.
In development are SPECS for:
Early Skills
Early Language
Science
Foundation Subjects
